The 2008 Atlantic Theological Conference

Christian Psychology: The Formation of the Soul is the theme of the Atlantic Theological Conference at the University of King's College in Halifax June 24-27. Among the featured speakers are Dr. Neil Robertson, King's College; Dr. Anthony Esolen, Providence College, Rhode Island; Dr. Jane Curran, Dalhousie University; and Dr. Steve Dowden, Brandeis University, Massachusetts. The special opening night lecture by Dr. Michael Treschow, UBC Okanagan, is The Soul in Paraphrase: A Tribute to Robert Crouse.

Are you a woman caring for a family member with dementia or Alzheimer's?

Nurse researchers at the University of New Brunswick are interested in learning about how the health of women caregivers is affected by their past relationship with the family member, and by obligation. They are seeking women to take part in a series of four short telephone surveys over the course of nine months. These will be scheduled at your convenience, and you will receive $20 per survey. All your answers will be confidential, and you may choose to withdraw from the study at any time. Further information is available at (health at unb.ca).

CAMPS CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Remember a loved-one with a memorial donation to the camps Faith for a Lifetime Campaign. Memorial cards are available at the Synod Office, 115 Church St. in Fredericton (506/459-1801) and from campaign chair Peter Irish, (506/603-9636 or pgirish at nbnet.nb.ca).

As of April 15 our unofficial campaign total is approximately $662,655 with $337,345 to go. That's up $42,857 since December 31, 2007. And that's $14,957 ahead of where we were this time last year.

Since the appearance of the campaign article the March NB Anglican, we have received approximately $5,985. That's approximately $1,000 a week over the following six week period.

We need to reach our $1million goal in order to provide Camp Brookwood with the $90,000 we promised them from the campaign to help refurbish their infrastructure. Much of that will be needed this summer. We also need  $247,345 to pay down the loan we took out to finish the new main hall at Camp Medley.

If you have yet to send in your envelope from the March issue of the NB Anglican, why not do it now?

I wish to thank you again for your continued support and I look forward to receiving some more mail.

God Bless and let's keep the camps programs in our prayers as the summer approaches.

PWRDF

CIDA matches relief funds given to PWRDF

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is matching contributions of Canadians to humanitarian organizations responding to Cyclone Nargis that struck Burma on May 2, 2008. For every dollar donated by individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations such as The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, Canada will contribute a dollar to the Burma Cyclone Relief Fund.

There is no limit on the amount of matching funds that are available through this program from the Government of Canada.

To be counted for this purpose, the donation must comply with all of the conditions below.

It must be

• a monetary donation up to $100,000;

• made by an individual Canadian to a registered Canadian non-government organization (NGOs) such as PWRDF;

• specifically earmarked by PWRDF for the purpose of responding to the May 2 cyclone; and

• made between May 15, 2008, and June 6, 2008.

PWRDF partner ACT (Action Churches Together)  has already donated $5.1 million to Burma (Myanmar) and $1.5million to central China. Despite humanitarian access and logistical challenges in Burma, members of ACT International, mobilized resources through local organizations early-on, providing clean water, emergency food and non-food items to more than 100,000 people.

PWRDF is receiving donations through its website, parish offerings and direct phone calls to the PWRDF office, and processing those donations through Action by Churches Together (ACT), ensuring that they will reach the appropriate partner organizations in Myanmar and China.

Find inspiring PWRDF stories here.

PWRDF is the Anglican Church of Canada's agency for international development, relief, refugees and justice issues.

Thank you for giving to the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund.

HEAVENLY HUMOUR

There was a British admiral and an Anglican bishop. The two had gone to school together, always competing with each other.
Many years later, they met each other in London’s Liverpool Street Station. The
bishop pretended not to recognize the admiral, and set out to put him in his
place.
“I say. Conductor!: he said to the admiral. "Which is the next train to Birmingham?”
“Madam,” said the Admiral. “Do you think you should be travelling in your condition?”
